It is mostly safe to walk around the Maldives due to the low levels of crime, however petty crimes do occur. Do not leave items unattended at the beaches or leave the resort rooms unlocked. Outside the resorts, there have been instances of gang related violence, including knife crime, on the islands of Male and Hulhumale.
